FAQ

Is this paid?

$7-15/hr, depending on your state/country's regulations.

Do I have to be an AIME qualifier?

Certainly not! Our TA's range from non-AIME qualifiers to Mathcounts Nationals qualifiers to MOPpers, but they all have one thing in common: A desire to spread their love of math to the world.

How big of a commitment is this?

Class times are flexible! Each Live Course consists of 20 one-hour classes, which occur from 1 to 5 times a week depending on your availability; they typically run between 6-9pm EST. Choose whatever works for you!

How's this different from any other online teaching opportunity?

Are you kidding? This is unlike anything you've ever seen before! Classes are led by not one, but two TA's bouncing ideas off of each other. So if you're a little camera-shy, don't worry- your partner's got your back! Our TA's are getting a taste of professional teaching, while also enhancing their own math abilities, and meeting some of the most brilliant high schoolers from around the world! Yeah no- this is legit something.

Can I apply even if I live outside the US?

Go ahead! Although we're currently focusing on recruiting TA's in the US, we'll hopefully eventually expand to the whole world! Just keep in mind the time zone conflict- classes typically run between 6 and 9 PM EST.

When's the application deadline?

There is no deadline. Although there are only 10-20 now, we are aiming to eventually recruit hundreds of TA's, but the sooner your apply, the more opportunities you'll get to play a key role in the development of this program- so APPLY ASAP!

What if I don't have teaching equipment at home?

You're in luck- we supply our TA's top quality teaching equipment (mac mini, two monitors, writing tablet, desk lamp), free of charge!

What's the format of a class?

Two TA's, forty students, and a bot which displays Zoom chat messages on-screen real-time, with another TA behind the scenes ensuring actually reasonable moderation. We'll train you to teach on Zoom with as much gusto and skill that you'll feel just like a Twitch streamer!

What's it like to be a TA?

We have a Discord server for our TA's to interact; one of the best things about this internship is the community! To prepare for the real thing, TA's also take part in Improv Comedy lessons, which is honestly the best type of icebreaker you could ever imagine! One more perk is that you'll get the chance to help Prof. Loh test out his programs and ideas on the cutting edge of innovation, and possibly help to film a viral YouTube video!
